Filtering and Re-mapping MIDI easily with iConnectivity Gear

Intro

If you’ve got a complex MIDI setup, you’re likely looking for a way to remove certain MIDI messages, and re-map other messages to other channels. While this sounds a bit complex-it doesn’t have to be.

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of using MIDI filtering and channel remapping with the iConnectivity mioXM.

Connecting the mioXM to your Computer

For the sake of this tutorial, we’ll be working with the mioXM.

To get started, connect the included power supply to your mioXM, and connect a USB cable from your mioXM to your computer.

If you haven’t yet, make sure to download Auracle for X-Series the free control software from iConnectivity before continuing.

With our interface connected to our computer and Auracle for X-Series downloaded, let’s get started!

Connecting MIDI Input to mioXM

To get started, connect your MIDI devices to the iConnectivity mioXM.

Using a 5-pin DIN MIDI cable, plug one end into the MIDI input of the mioXM and the other end into your MIDI device. For this tutorial, I’ll connect a 5-pin DIN cable to the DIN 1 input on my interface.

We’ll setup our filtering and re-maping in a moment, but we’ll also need an output to send MIDI data to. For the sake of this tutorial, I’ll use DIN 1 output on the front of the mioXM

This simple connection allows the mioXM to receive MIDI signals from your devices, enabling you to filter and remap them effortlessly.

It’s worth noting that you could also connect your USB MIDI devices, or RTP MIDI devices, as well, but we’ll focus solely on DIN MIDI connections for this tutorial.

MIDI Filtering with mioXM

Using the "Filter and Remap" function within Auracle for X-Series, you can easily specify which MIDI messages to filter out.

Click Filter and Remap

Choose the input that corresponds to the connection we made earlier. In this case it’s DIN 1.

Now, choose what you want to filter out.

In this case… let’s filter out “stop” messages, so I’ll choose that on the right hand side of screen.

Remapping MIDI Channels

You can also re-map MIDI message to different channels from this screen.

With the “Filter and Remap” section still open, click on the “Remap” option on the right hand side of the page.

Let’s say for example we want to remap MIDI messages from channel 1 (note-on) to channel 16.

In that case, click at the intersection of channel 1 and Note On

Then choose the channel you want to re-map to, in this case, channel 16 as the destination.

Using mioXM without a Computer

Love how easy this was, but wish you could do this without needing a computer? Well your wish is granted.

Click on the Preset tab in Auracle for X-Series.

Save your current settings as a preset. If you have no other presets saved on your device, choose “Save to All Presets” otherwise, choose what preset you’d like to save to.

Now, you can disconnect the USB cable from your mioXM to your computer, and use your mioXM “DAW”Less.

Wrap-Up

The beauty of using the mioXM is you’re limited to just filtering and re-mapping MIDI.

By connecting your MIDI devices to the mioXM you’re opening them to a whole world full of possibilities.
